What does a Stylist do? Part 1: Closet Detox
Before we start digging into the clothing line, I want to spend some time answering some frequently asked stylist questions. One of the questions I get asked the most as a stylist is do you just clean out people's closets?
One of my favorite things to do as a personal stylist is a closet detox. It’s one of the most satisfying and soul cleansing tasks. Getting rid of things that don’t serve you and making room for things that do is one of the best ways to hit reset on your style and your life. I realize a closet cleanout changing your life might seem a little over exaggerated, but if you do it correctly, I promise you will wake up brand new.
This is usually the first big step in the process when I start working with a new client and I recommend doing it at least twice a year, spring and fall are a good rule of thumb. The key here, and the part most people don’t want to do, is you have to take everything out of the closet.
Every.
Single.
Thing.
You absolutely cannot skip this step.
There’s something about seeing a fresh, clean, empty closet that gives you perspective on how you want to fill that space. You don’t want it to be cluttered, you don’t want to see things you dread wearing in there, you want peace, you want clarity, you want things that make you feel good in that space.
Once you have everything out, the process of deciding what stays and what goes begins, and that’s often where I come in. I walk with you through each piece and we only keep what needs to stay based on style goals, fit, and tailoring your options to your needs.
This process takes a while, but it’s worth it. If you want to get started on a little seasonal closet cleanout of your own, sign up below to receive my free Closet Cleanout 101 guide! And of course, if I can help in any way don’t hesitate to reach out - joslyn@joslynchase.co!
